Liverpool Gain Momentum as PSG Lowers Price for Bradley Barcola Transfer
Liverpool have received a significant boost in their efforts to sign Paris Saint-Germain forward Bradley Barcola. The French club has reportedly reduced their asking price, reigniting Liverpool's hope to complete the deal before the transfer window closes.
Price Reduction Sparks Progress
Early talks between the clubs were tough, but negotiations have gained momentum recently. According to The Times, PSG initially valued Barcola at €170 million but has now lowered the fee to approximately £115 million following recent discussions. This reduction of around £30 million marks a notable step forward in the transfer talks.
After failing to finalize a move for Yan Diomande, Liverpool shifted their focus fully to Barcola. With less than a week left before the deadline, the club is pushing hard to wrap up the deal by Tuesday.
Potential Record Signing for Liverpool
If the transfer goes through, Barcola would become Liverpool's second most expensive signing ever, with the £115 million fee just below the £125 million paid for Alexander Isak last summer. While the total outlay for Florian Wirtz reached £116 million, Liverpool's direct payment was only £16 million, contingent on winning major trophies.
Club officials are weighing whether Barcola justifies such a large investment. Personal terms seem unlikely to pose problems, as preliminary agreements for a long-term contract are reportedly in place, with Barcola keen to join Liverpool.
Right-Winger Hunt Continues
Alongside Barcola's pursuit, Liverpool remain active in the market for a right winger before the September 1 deadline. Sporting director Richard Hughes is assessing multiple options after the collapse of the Diomande transfer.
- Ibrahim Mbaye was considered.
- Yankuba Minteh bids were rejected by Brighton, who want £80 million.
- Enquiries were made for Endrick and Ismaila Sarr, but Real Madrid and Crystal Palace declined to sell.
- Said El Mala and Matias Fernandez-Pardo have attracted interest, though it’s unclear if Liverpool pursued them after signing Victor Munoz in June.
Next Steps for Liverpool
The expectation is that Liverpool and PSG will finalize the Barcola transfer soon. Hughes must act quickly to complete paperwork and medical checks before the window shuts. Securing Barcola and adding a right winger could make this summer a pivotal one for Liverpool’s squad.
