Liverpool Fans Demand Clarity Over Jeff Bezos Minority Stake Rumors

A prominent Liverpool fan group, Spirit of Shankly, has called for clear answers from Fenway Sports Group amid reports that Amazon founder Jeff Bezos might join a consortium planning to acquire a significant minority stake in the Premier League club.

Fans Seek Transparency on Ownership Changes

Following widespread rumors, Spirit of Shankly (SoS) reached out to Liverpool demanding information about the club's ownership and how future control might shift. The consortium, reportedly involving Bezos, is said to be close to purchasing roughly 30 percent of the club. SoS wants urgent discussions with club officials to understand what this means for football operations and governance at Anfield.

Protecting Club Values Is a Priority

The fan group emphasized that preserving the club’s core principles remains essential during takeover talks. They voiced concerns about new investors potentially influencing major decisions negatively. A statement from SoS read:

"Given the circumstances that led to FSG's acquisition of the club, knowing who owns it and how control is exercised — always prioritizing LFC and its supporters — matters deeply to all of us. This proposed 30% sale and the associated consortium are significant developments. The ownership and stewardship of our club are paramount to SoS and all fans. We have seen other clubs undergo similar sales that resulted in unwanted changes to club management and football operations, which many supporters would not want to see at Liverpool."

Consortium Backed by Wealth but Limited Sports Experience

Jeff Bezos holds an estimated net worth of £210 billion and owns assets such as The Washington Post and Blue Origin. Despite his vast wealth, he has no previous experience owning sports teams, though he has been linked to NFL franchises in the past. The investment group also includes Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin. Leading the consortium is Amit Bhatia, son-in-law of Indian steel tycoon Lakshmi Mittal, who brings relevant experience from his 18 years as co-owner and director of Queens Park Rangers before recently stepping down.

Awaiting Official Word From Fenway Sports Group

Fenway Sports Group, Liverpool's parent company, has historically welcomed external investment. Since acquiring Liverpool for around £300 million in 2010, the club's value has surged to approximately £4.5 billion. FSG confirmed last month that Bhatia-led consortium showed interest in a strategic minority stake. Fans are now waiting for official details about potential board representation and decision-making power before any deal is finalized.
