Liverpool Intensifies Pursuit of Bradley Barcola Amid PSG Talks
Liverpool’s search for wide reinforcements is accelerating, and Bradley Barcola now sits firmly at the centre of it.
With Mohamed Salah gone to Trabzonspor and the transfer deadline looming, the club’s recruitment team is pushing hard on multiple fronts. One winger is already through the door in Victor Munoz from Osasuna. A second, Yan Diomande, slipped away once it became clear he preferred a different move. The response from Anfield has been blunt: go bigger, go higher up the food chain.
That has led them to Paris.
Direct line to PSG
Bradley Barcola is Liverpool’s leading option for the left flank, and talks with Paris Saint-Germain are described as constant and direct. This is not a saga of formal bids splashed across press releases. It is, as Fabrizio Romano put it, a conversation between powerbrokers.
On his YouTube channel, Romano stressed that the eye-watering €170m figure mentioned in some quarters is simply not on the table.
“With all respect for PSG, the feeling of those in the industry has always been that it is never going to be €170m, but it will still be a big amount of money,” he said, making clear that while the price will be high, it will not be that high.
The dialogue between the clubs is ongoing, day after day. No “official bid, this money, accepted, rejected” pattern. Just a straight line between directors and owners, working through the numbers and the structure.
What matters for Liverpool fans is the status of the chase. Romano’s verdict was unequivocal: “The deal is alive. Barcola is absolutely, absolutely a deal that Liverpool want to complete in the next few days, and my expectation is absolutely for Liverpool to go very strong for Barcola.”
The message is clear. Liverpool are not circling. They are attacking this.
One winger in, one winger out?
The Barcola push is only one part of a wider reshaping of Liverpool’s forward line.
On the opposite flank, the club have already lodged two bids with Brighton for Yankuba Minteh as they look to secure a right-sided option to help absorb the loss of Salah. There is a chance that pursuit cools, with Liverpool weighing up whether to walk away depending on Brighton’s stance on the fee.
At the same time, Cody Gakpo’s future hangs over the whole plan. Romano noted that Liverpool intend to bring in “one more” wide player if Gakpo leaves, with Tottenham and Manchester City both circling the Dutchman.
That potential domino could define how aggressive Liverpool become in the final days of the window. Lose Gakpo, and the need for another attacker becomes urgent. Keep him, and the focus narrows onto Barcola and a single additional winger.
PSG braced for Barcola exit
In Paris, there is a growing sense of inevitability.
Ben Jacobs reports that PSG insiders now “expect” Barcola to leave before the window closes, with Liverpool the club in active talks. The French champions are not said to have an agreement in place yet, but the internal mood points towards an exit.
Jacobs also underlined the pressure building around Gakpo, posting that Tottenham are “still pushing” to sign the Liverpool forward, while Manchester City are interested but, as of Monday night, had not yet made a direct approach to Anfield.
So Liverpool find themselves in a delicate balancing act: negotiate a major deal with PSG for Barcola, manage bids and interest for Gakpo, and decide how far they are willing to go for Minteh – all against the unforgiving clock of the transfer deadline.
The Salah era is over. The question now is whether Liverpool can land Barcola in time to help shape what comes next.
