Liverpool's £50m Bid for Sarr After Minteh Pursuit Fails
Liverpool have turned sharply towards Crystal Palace forward Sarr, tabling a £50 million offer as their pursuit of Minteh hits a dead end, according to the Mirror.
Two Liverpool bids for Minteh were knocked back, both well below Brighton’s firm £70m valuation. With the window closing on Monday and only five days left to manoeuvre, Anfield has had to pivot quickly.
This is not a luxury hunt. It is a scramble born of crisis.
The club is still reeling from the tragic death of Diogo Jota, while the exits of Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah have ripped out almost an entire frontline. Wide forwards are no longer an area to strengthen – they are an emergency requirement.
Sarr, who arrived at Crystal Palace two years ago, is said to be very keen on the move to Merseyside. At 28, he offers something Liverpool badly need: proven end product, right now.
That is precisely why the deal is complicated.
Foot Mercato reports that Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal and Turkish champions Galatasaray are both pushing hard for his signature. Galatasaray are described as being in advanced talks, while Al-Hilal are keeping a close watch and ready to act if the opportunity opens.
Palace know they are holding a valuable asset. Sarr’s numbers back that up. Last season he made 45 appearances in all competitions, scoring 21 goals and adding two assists as Palace went all the way to lift the UEFA Europa Conference League.
His form did not dip on the international stage either. At the World Cup this summer, he struck four times before Senegal were knocked out by Belgium in the round of 32, underlining his status as a forward in his prime, not a project.
For Liverpool, the timing is brutal. For Sarr, it is perfect.
Manager Iraola has already made it clear he needs help immediately, with Cody Gakpo attracting interest from both Tottenham and Manchester City and the squad stretched thin across the front line.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Iraola laid out the reality of the final days of the market: “Some deals you have to wait until the end. But the end is the important picture, the one we will have on September 1, because it is true that we are still quite thin.”
He admitted he had wanted every position doubled with top-level options before the campaign even started. That has not happened. Now he has to adapt while Liverpool scramble to give him the tools to compete.
The clock is ticking. Liverpool have made their move.
Whether £50m for Sarr is enough to beat Galatasaray, fend off Al-Hilal and persuade Palace to sell will help define what kind of season Iraola is about to face.
