Liverpool Make Bid for Ismaila Sarr as Winger Hunt Intensifies
Liverpool have made their move.
The Anfield club have lodged an opening bid for Crystal Palace winger Ismaila Sarr as they accelerate plans to reshape their attack before the transfer window closes next week.
Liverpool change lanes in winger hunt
A wide forward sits at the top of Andoni Iraola’s wishlist. Victor Munoz has already arrived from Osasuna, but with Mohamed Salah gone at the end of last season, Liverpool still lack a like-for-like threat on the right.
For weeks, Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh looked like the preferred option. Liverpool tested the Seagulls’ resolve twice, including an offer in the region of £60m for the 22-year-old. Brighton stood firm. Talks dragged, then stalled over the weekend. Momentum disappeared.
Liverpool didn’t wait around.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the club have now parked their pursuit of Minteh and turned decisively towards Sarr, a player they know all too well after his goal against them at the start of last season.
£50m on the table – and Sarr wants it
Discussions between Liverpool and Crystal Palace are under way, with an offer of around £50m already submitted. On the player’s side, there is no hesitation. Sarr is said to be keen on the move and has given the green light to a switch to Merseyside.
That leaves the real battle at club level.
Palace have already rejected two bids from Galatasaray this summer. Sarr is central to their plans, a key figure in the Eagles’ attack and under contract at Selhurst Park until 2029. They are under no financial pressure to sell and can set a hard line on valuation.
Yet the situation is not straightforward. Sarr is understood to be eager to leave before the window shuts, and Palace must weigh up the value of a record fee against the risk of keeping an unsettled star.
Palace dig in, but tension grows
Sarr missed Palace’s opening-weekend defeat to Everton, officially due to a minor injury. New manager Pierre Sage moved quickly afterwards to stress the club’s stance.
“The doctor, the player and I took the decision before our training session yesterday to let him have treatment,” Sage said. “We don’t want him to leave, he is under contract with us for three years and he will be with us on Monday. That’s the most important information for me and for you.”
His words underlined Palace’s position: Sarr is not on the market on their terms.
But the numbers tell their own story. Nine league goals in 28 appearances last season, including that strike against Liverpool, underline why he has become such a coveted option. Pace, direct running, end product – the exact profile Liverpool need as they build a new front line without Salah.
The clock is ticking. Liverpool have put their money down and Sarr is ready to jump. Now the decision lies with Palace: hold firm on a prized asset tied down until 2029, or cash in on a player who clearly sees his future away from Selhurst Park.
