Leeds United Appeal Goal Decision in Win Over Newcastle

Leeds United have challenged the decision to credit their second goal in Monday night’s 4-1 win over Newcastle to Jayden Bogle rather than Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

The flashpoint came in the 34th minute. James Justin whipped in a teasing cross, Calvert-Lewin attacked it and wheeled away believing he had headed Leeds into a 2-0 lead. On the stadium screens and in the initial chaos, it looked like his goal.

Then came the twist.

After review, officials ruled that Bogle had applied the decisive touch, and the defender was later officially handed the goal. Calvert-Lewin, who struck again in first-half stoppage time to make it 3-1, was visibly stunned when the referee informed him the earlier strike had been taken off him and awarded to his team-mate.

The Premier League match centre later confirmed on X that the “goal accreditation panel adjudged Leeds' 34th minute goal as a Bogle goal”.

Leeds have now lodged an appeal, pushing for the goal to be reassigned. A second, separate panel will be convened to re-examine the incident and deliver a final ruling on who gets their name on the scoresheet.
