Lazio Considers Icardi and Bissouma as Gattuso Stays Firm

Lazio’s transfer window is technically closed, but the market hasn’t stopped moving in Rome. With two free-agent slots still available in their Serie A list, the club are carefully scanning opportunities rather than rushing into late decisions.

The Biancocelesti have already brought in Portuguese defender Diogo Leite on a free, yet the omissions of Patric and Luca Pellegrini from the official league squad leave president Claudio Lotito with room – and temptation – to maneuver.

At the top of that temptation list sits Mauro Icardi.

According to Corriere dello Sport, via TuttoMercatoWeb, Lotito remains intrigued by the idea of adding the former Inter and Galatasaray striker, who is still without a club after leaving the Turkish side. The name is high profile, the goal record proven, and the opportunity financially appealing for a player of his pedigree.

But the enthusiasm in the boardroom is not fully shared on the touchline.

Gattuso cool on Icardi idea

Gennaro Gattuso has a clear picture of what he wants from his No. 9. He pushed for – and received – a more mobile central striker in the final days of the summer, with Andrea Pinamonti arriving to fit that brief.

For Gattuso, the priority now is to get Pinamonti fully match-fit and integrated into his system, not to reshape the attack around a different type of centre-forward. Icardi, with his penalty-box instincts and more static profile, sits low on the coach’s list of needs at this stage.

The coach’s stance is firm: any move for Icardi would be an option, not a necessity.

Midfield injuries open door for Bissouma

While the Icardi debate simmers in the background, another name has entered the frame in a position of more immediate concern. Former Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma is being evaluated as a possible reinforcement after recent injuries in central midfield stretched Gattuso’s options.

Bissouma, also a free agent, would offer energy and presence in the middle of the park, qualities Lazio could use as the season’s workload begins to bite.

For now, though, Lazio are choosing patience over impulse. The squad has space, the market offers opportunities, but the club will take their time before deciding whether to pull the trigger on Icardi, Bissouma, both – or neither.
