Kimmich and Kompany Prepare for Real Madrid Clash

Joshua Kimmich has brushed aside talk of any lingering tension with Vinicius Junior, insisting the pair’s on-pitch clashes are nothing more than the hard edge of elite competition.

The Bayern Munich midfielder, speaking ahead of another high-stakes meeting with Real Madrid, rejected the idea that previous duels with the Brazilian forward pointed to any deeper feud.

"It's being blown out of proportion," Kimmich told reporters, as quoted by Bild. "Of course, Real Madrid is also known for their game management skills. Time was on Madrid's side. Accordingly, everyone has their own strategies to run down the clock."

No grudge. No drama. Just two fierce competitors pushing the limits in a Champions League cauldron.

For Kimmich, Madrid’s notorious ability to suffocate games late on is part of the challenge, not a scandal. He framed the time-wasting narrative as a natural extension of experience and control, a weapon any top side would use when the clock and the scoreboard are in their favour.

Kompany refuses to be blinded by star power

On the other side of the technical area, Vincent Kompany cut a calm, clear figure as he looked ahead to facing a Real Madrid squad loaded with individual brilliance.

Questions inevitably drifted towards the prospect of dealing with both Vinicius and Kylian Mbappé in the same side. Kompany, though, steered the conversation away from star-obsessed intrigue and back towards the collective reality of facing the European giants.

"At this level, every team is dangerous," the Belgian coach explained. "Every team can create something special. You can concede a goal, but you can also score one. You can't have a game plan against Real Madrid that completely neutralizes their individual qualities. That's why everyone comes to these matches. But I also believe you can't completely eliminate our own qualities from the game."

That line cut to the heart of his approach. Respect the opponent’s weapons, but never to the point of abandoning your own.

Kompany spoke like a man who has lived these nights, who understands that no whiteboard can fully contain players of Madrid’s calibre. The trick is not to chase the impossible, but to impose your own identity in the middle of the storm.

"The most important thing is that you don't lose sight of what got you here in the first place," he continued. "Tomorrow, we need total focus on the toughest match you can have in Europe, but we want to be 100 percent focused on how to win and how we want to win. I simply want us to win, and for the team to be fearless and show what they can do."

Fearless. That was the word that lingered.

Kimmich’s defiance, Kompany’s conviction, Madrid’s aura, Vinicius’ edge, the looming presence of Mbappé – all of it feeds into a familiar Champions League storyline. The names change, the shirts don’t. The question now is whether Bayern’s leaders can turn those words into a performance that cuts through the weight of the Real Madrid myth.
