Juventus Faces Vlahovic Setback in Champions League Bid
Juventus’ push for a return to the Champions League has taken a sharp blow, with Dusan Vlahovic sidelined again just weeks after making his comeback.
The 26-year-old striker, who had already spent a lengthy spell out since December, returned to action in mid-March and looked ready to lead Juve through the run-in. That optimism vanished on Monday night. During the warm-up ahead of the second half of the 2-0 Serie A win over Genoa, Vlahovic felt a problem in his left calf and signalled trouble.
Juve moved quickly.
“During the warm-up held in the second half of the match against Genoa, Dusan Vlahovic felt an issue in his left calf,” the club said. “As a result, this morning he underwent diagnostic tests. The examinations revealed low-grade damage.”
Low grade, but badly timed. Italian media report he will be out for at least three weeks, a spell that cuts straight into the heart of the run-in.
For a side living on fine margins, the context is brutal. Juventus sit fifth in Serie A, one point behind Como, who currently occupy the final Champions League spot, with seven games left to play. Every fixture now carries the weight of a play-off, every missed chance potentially decisive.
Vlahovic’s absence strips Massimiliano Allegri’s attack of its focal point at the very moment the pressure tightens. The goals, the hold-up play, the threat that pins back defences – all suddenly removed from the equation.
Seven games, one point to make up, and their main striker watching from the treatment room. Juventus now have to find another way.
