Juventus Sign Pape Matar Sarr from Tottenham
Juventus have struck a deal with Tottenham Hotspur to bring in midfielder Pape Matar Sarr, in a move that could rise to €30 million and reshape both clubs’ midfields.
The agreement, reported by Fabrizio Romano, is built around an initial loan with an option to buy. That option will not stay optional for long if things go to plan in Turin. The clause becomes an obligation if Juventus qualify for the Champions League and Sarr hits agreed appearance thresholds over the season.
In other words: if Sarr plays and Juve succeed, the transfer becomes permanent.
Juventus pounce as Sarr pushes for change
Talks accelerated once Sarr made it clear he wanted a new challenge away from North London. The 23-year-old has been fighting for minutes and saw the path get even narrower under Roberto De Zerbi after the arrivals of Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali.
Monaco were widely viewed as frontrunners at one stage. That evaporated quickly. Once Juventus came calling, Sarr moved fast to agree personal terms, sensing a clearer role and a club ready to build around his profile.
For the Bianconeri, this is a late-window correction. Several midfield pursuits collapsed, and the focus switched to a player who fits a very specific brief: high-energy, box-to-box, with the legs to press and the timing to win the ball back. Sarr ticks those boxes and brings Champions League-level upside if his development continues on its current track.
A leaner Spurs midfield – and a potential payday
From Tottenham’s side, the logic is blunt. The midfield is crowded, the minutes are limited, and a player with strong resale value wants to play. Letting Sarr go now clears space and, if the conditions are triggered, delivers a sizeable fee that could be reinvested.
Sarr departs after more than 100 competitive appearances for Spurs, having joined from FC Metz in 2021. He leaves as a proven Premier League performer, not a prospect, and that is exactly what has attracted Juventus.
With the agreement in place, Sarr has been given the green light to travel to Turin. A medical and contract signing now stand between him and a fresh start in Serie A before the window shuts.
Tottenham, meanwhile, are not slowing down. They remain active in the market for another attacker, with Everton’s Iliman Ndiaye currently at the top of their list. Arsenal and Manchester City are also circling, setting up a late-window battle that could shape the attacking landscape of the Premier League’s elite.
