Juventus Secure Loan of Nick Woltemade from Newcastle
Juventus have struck a season-long loan deal for Newcastle United forward Nick Woltemade, moving quickly to secure attacking cover before Tuesday’s transfer deadline.
The 24-year-old will head to Turin for a medical after the clubs agreed a £3.5m loan fee. The agreement is a straight loan with no option or obligation to buy, keeping Newcastle in full control of Woltemade’s long-term future.
Juventus pick Woltemade over Zirkzee
Juventus had been scouring the market for a forward with Jonathan David poised to join Atletico Madrid on loan. The Italian club held talks with Manchester United over Joshua Zirkzee after his proposed move to Fiorentina collapsed, but the numbers never quite aligned.
Manchester United pushed for an obligation-to-buy clause in any Zirkzee deal. Juventus walked away from that demand and turned to Woltemade, convinced he fits their plans better and comes at a significantly lower cost. The structure of the deal, without a forced purchase, also gives them flexibility next summer.
Newcastle’s record signing on the move
Woltemade only arrived at Newcastle from Stuttgart in August 2025 as a headline £69m signing, but his start under new manager Matthias Jaissle has been stop-start. He has made just one start in Jaissle’s first three matches in charge.
He did, however, remind everyone of his quality at the weekend. Coming off the bench against Tottenham Hotspur, Woltemade set up Yoane Wissa’s goal in a 2-0 away win, a sharp cameo that underlined the sense that he needs regular minutes rather than a watching brief.
Newcastle’s willingness to let him go on loan is tied directly to their own attacking reshuffle. BBC Sport had already reported that a move for Lille forward Matias Fernandez-Pardo could open the door for Woltemade’s exit.
That door is now wide open. Fernandez-Pardo flew into Tyneside on Monday evening to finalise a transfer worth up to £55m, a deal that gives Jaissle another major attacking option and clears the path for Woltemade’s Italian detour.
So Woltemade swaps Tyneside for Turin, at least for a year. Juventus get the forward they wanted on their terms. Newcastle bank a fee and ease a crowded frontline. What happens next season will depend on what Woltemade does with this one.
