Joe Bursik Returns to AFC Wimbledon on Loan

Joe Bursik has completed an emotional return to AFC Wimbledon, rejoining the club on loan from Championship side Portsmouth for the rest of the season.

The move brings the 26-year-old back to Plough Lane, the place where his journey began. Bursik first walked through Wimbledon's doors as an eight-year-old in the academy, before leaving for Stoke City at 16 to chase a first-team career higher up the pyramid.

He made his name at Stoke during the 2020-21 campaign, recording seven clean sheets in 16 Championship appearances and showing enough presence and composure to earn a reputation as a reliable shot-stopper. Those performances were followed by a series of loan spells designed to harden him for senior football, taking in Telford, Accrington, Doncaster and Peterborough.

Portsmouth secured his signature in September 2025, and Bursik has since featured 10 times in the league for Pompey. He also started one of the standout fixtures of his career so far, lining up against Arsenal in a 4-1 FA Cup third-round defeat at Fratton Park.

Now he returns to Wimbledon with more experience, more miles on the clock, and a clear brief: to bring that Championship pedigree back to the club where it all started and anchor their season from the back.
