Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s Harry Kane dream is about to hit a wall.

The Manchester United co-owner, a long-time admirer of the England captain, has made no secret privately of his desire to lure Kane to Old Trafford. With the Bayern Munich striker out of contract at the end of the season, United had been watching the situation closely and were prepared to explore a deal for the former Tottenham Hotspur talisman.

But the window of opportunity is closing fast.

Bayern move to lock Kane down

Back on August 10, transfer insider Graeme Bailey revealed that United were among the clubs keen on Kane, even as the forward’s stance pointed firmly towards staying in Germany. Kane, 33, has settled quickly at Bayern and, crucially, has shown no sign of pushing for a move away.

Now Bayern are ready to formalise that commitment.

The German champions are prepared to put a new three-year contract on the table, one that would keep Kane at the Allianz Arena well beyond 2026. And, according to reports in Germany, clarity is coming soon: an announcement on his future is expected next month.

That timeline matters. It would effectively shut down any serious outside interest before the final year of his current deal can turn into a transfer circus.

‘Relax’ – Bayern confident over extension

Bild journalist Christian Falk, writing on his CFBayernInsider platform, lifted the lid on the mood inside the club after speaking to Bayern president Herbert Hainer.

Falk explained that Kane, who was named “football star of the year” at the Sport Bild Awards, joined the ceremony via Zoom while his father, Pat, attended in person at Hamburg’s Fischauktionshalle. Behind the scenes, the message from Bayern’s hierarchy was calm and bullish.

According to Falk, officials around Hainer were effectively telling everyone to “relax”, convinced that a new deal for Kane is only a matter of time. There are still details to iron out in the negotiations, but the confidence is strong that an agreement will be reached.

Falk expects a contract announcement “in the next month” and is adamant it will come “absolutely this year, not next year”. His prediction is clear: Kane will sign an extension that runs beyond 2026.

If that happens, the consequences for the market are obvious. Kane, one of the most complete centre-forwards of his generation, would be “off the market for every other club for a long time”.

Blow for Manchester United

That line lands hardest in Manchester.

United, still searching for a reliable, world-class No 9 to lead their new era under Ratcliffe’s part-ownership, have long viewed Kane as the ideal solution. His goals, leadership and Premier League pedigree made him the dream signing for Old Trafford’s powerbrokers.

But dreams collide with reality.

With Bayern moving to secure their star and Kane showing no public inclination to force a move, United’s hopes of finally landing the striker they have coveted for years are fading fast. As Falk put it, with a pointed nod to England’s most persistent suitors: “Sorry again to his long-time admirers, Manchester United!”
