Jeremy Doku Commits to Manchester City with Five-Year Contract Extension
Manchester City have officially announced that Belgian winger Jeremy Doku has signed a new five-year contract, securing his future at the Etihad Stadium through to 2031. The 24-year-old attacker continues to be a key figure in the squad as the club enters a fresh chapter under manager Enzo Maresca.
A Long-Term Role at the Etihad
Since joining from Stade Rennais in 2023, Doku has rapidly become one of the Premier League's most electrifying wide players. His blend of rapid pace and technical skill has made him a consistent threat and an integral part of a team dominating English football. This contract renewal follows others this summer from notable players like Phil Foden, Josko Gvardiol, and Abdukodir Khusanov.
"This club means so much to me – I have developed as both a player and a person," Doku shared. "I feel settled here, and I know I am improving every day because of the work the staff here do. It’s hard to explain just how much this club does to help players."
Building Around Doku in the Maresca Era
The extension is a big boost for Manchester City as they move forward with Enzo Maresca at the helm. Maresca is keen to center his attacking strategy around Doku's exceptional pace and skills. The winger expressed excitement about the coach's style, which aligns with what the team enjoys playing.
"With Enzo here now, I am really excited about the new season. His style of football is the kind we love, so that’s exciting for the players," said Doku. "The City fans are also a huge reason I have signed this new contract. I feel their love and support, and it means the world to me. I want to focus on bringing them the success they deserve."
Praise from Club Director Hugo Viana
Manchester City's Director of Football, Hugo Viana, applauded Doku's progress since joining in 2023. Viana highlighted the player's dynamic presence and valued character within the squad.
"Jeremy is a huge talent whose improvement since joining us in 2023 is clear for all to see. He has a special dynamic. He has the right characteristics for what we are looking for in a winger. He really does bring a special quality to our team," Viana said. "Jeremy is also a fantastic person. He is someone loved across the club. His attitude is first class, and he wants to improve every single day. He deserves this new deal, and I know he will continue his improvement in the coming months and years."
Doku’s Impact Since Arriving in England
From his debut season, Doku made a historic impression. He became the youngest player in Premier League history to record four assists and five goal involvements in a single match during a game against Bournemouth. In that campaign, he appeared over 40 times, scoring six goals and assisting 11 as City clinched their fourth straight league title.
Even when facing tougher challenges in the 2024-25 season, Doku remained dependable, finishing with eight goals and nine assists while showing growth in defensive duties. By the 2025-26 season, he was indispensable, helping secure a domestic cup double and playing a key role in critical moments such as providing an equalizer and assist in the FA Cup semi-final against Southampton under Pep Guardiola’s final year.
