Jamal Musiala's Health Concerns Ahead of German Super Cup
Jamal Musiala has given Bayern Munich another scare just days before the German Super Cup, feeling unwell for the second time in four days during pre-season.
The 21-year-old midfielder had only just stepped onto the pitch in Tuesday’s 4-2 friendly win over Heidenheim when the worrying scenes began again. Brought on after an hour, he lasted barely four minutes before going to ground, prompting an immediate and protective reaction from everyone around him.
Players from both sides quickly formed a circle, shielding Musiala as medical staff sprinted on. The atmosphere turned anxious in an instant. Bayern’s playmaker received treatment on the turf but, after a few tense moments, was able to get back to his feet and walk off the pitch unaided.
It was uncomfortably familiar.
On Saturday, in another friendly, this time against RB Leipzig, Musiala had also felt unwell shortly after coming on in the closing stages. He sat down on the grass and stayed there, needing help from several emergency responders. Concern spread quickly across the pitch and the stands, with team-mates visibly alarmed. Ismael Saibari was among those most worried as staff worked around the Germany international.
Eventually, Musiala was able to leave the field without assistance, drawing a visible sigh of relief from Bayern’s camp.
After that Leipzig match, sporting director Max Eberl tried to calm the situation without offering specifics. “He is doing well now. And that is the most important thing. Beyond that, we cannot say too much about it yet,” he told Sport1.
Since then, Musiala has not spoken publicly about the two incidents. The questions, though, are piling up. Two friendlies, two similar episodes, both shortly after his introduction from the bench.
Bayern now head into Saturday’s German Super Cup clash with Borussia Dortmund with their brightest attacking talent under an unexpected cloud.
