Jamal Musiala Addresses Health Concerns After Collapsing on Pitch
Jamal Musiala has revealed he is dealing with “treatable absence seizures” after collapsing on the pitch for the second time in four days, but insists there is no long-term threat to his health and that he intends to keep playing.
The Bayern Munich winger went down just eight minutes after coming on as a substitute in Tuesday night’s friendly against FC Heidenheim, a worrying repeat of the incident that saw him collapse in Saturday’s match with RB Leipzig.
This time, Musiala chose to address the fear head-on.
In a detailed post on Instagram, the 23-year-old moved quickly to calm the anxiety that has grown around him in recent days. “First things first, I am doing well. I am incredibly grateful for your messages and your support!” he wrote, before outlining the diagnosis that explains the sudden episodes.
“I have been diagnosed with brief, temporary – but treatable – absence seizures resulting from a neurological dysfunction,” Musiala explained. “These can lead to the kind of incidents seen recently, such as during the match against Leipzig or the game in Heidenheim.”
The images of him sinking to the turf have been jarring, yet Musiala stressed that, for now, this is something he is learning to live with rather than something that will define or derail his career.
“I know they might look alarming at first glance, but for me, they are currently part of my everyday life. I am receiving excellent medical care and remain very optimistic. FC Bayern and my personal support network are right by my side, helping me through this.”
The key line for Bayern supporters and Germany fans came next. “Importantly, there is no further health risk involved,” he said, making clear that specialists have cleared him to continue. In close consultation with neurologists, Musiala has chosen to keep playing, convinced that normality and routine are part of his recovery.
“In close consultation and regular contact with the experts, it was my personal wish to face this challenge; with the medical clearance of the neurologists, I want to continue doing what helps my recovery most: simply living my life and pursuing my passion for playing football. I have taken full responsibility for this decision. Overall, I feel very positive and am on the right track.”
The ambition has not dimmed. Musiala underlined that his targets remain the same: trophies, performances, and the relentless pursuit of success with Bayern.
“What helps me most on this journey is continuing to chase victories and titles with my team and with your amazing support,” he wrote.
He also drew a clear line around how much more he wants to share. After opening up about his condition, Musiala asked for space and privacy as he navigates the next steps with those closest to him and the club’s medical staff.
“I hope this helps you understand the situation better. At the same time, I ask for your understanding regarding my wish to keep this matter private, sharing it only with my closest circle, the club, and the medical experts.”
Two collapses in four days would shake any player. Musiala’s response is to keep the ball at his feet, the doctors at his side, and his eyes fixed on the next title race.
