Jadon Sancho is leaning towards a move abroad as he weighs up his next step, despite concrete interest from Premier League clubs.

Six weeks on from the expiry of his Manchester United contract, the 26-year-old is a free agent and in no rush, sounding out options while he keeps himself sharp away from the spotlight.

One familiar name has re-emerged. Borussia Dortmund, where Sancho made 158 appearances across two spells and built his reputation as one of Europe’s most exciting young wingers, are among the clubs believed to be keen on bringing him back. The Bundesliga side sold him to United for £73m in 2021; now they could yet offer the reset his career has been edging towards.

Sancho is understood to favour a move outside England, but he has not closed the door on any route. Offers from within the Premier League are on the table, yet the pull of a fresh start on the continent is strong.

Recent Club Journey

His recent club journey has been anything but straightforward. Last season he spent the campaign on loan at Aston Villa, making 39 appearances as Unai Emery’s side surged into the Champions League places and lifted the Europa League. Sancho featured as a late substitute in the victory over Freiburg, his third European final in as many seasons.

The year before, he had gone to Chelsea on loan for the 2024-25 season, playing 41 times. That deal contained an obligation to buy, but the west London club chose a different route, paying a £5m penalty to send him back to Manchester United rather than make the move permanent.

With his Old Trafford chapter now formally closed, Sancho has been training with non-league side Flixton to maintain fitness ahead of the new campaign. It is a low-key setting for a player once moved for a blockbuster fee, but it underlines the crossroads he faces.
