Inter Milan Closing in on £30m Deal for Curtis Jones
Inter Milan are edging towards a deal to prise Curtis Jones away from Liverpool in a move worth around 35m euros (£30m). The negotiations, which have rumbled on through the summer, are now understood to be approaching the figure that could finally unlock an agreement.
Liverpool knocked back a verbal offer of 25m euros (£21.7m) in June, holding firm to a valuation closer to £35m for the 25-year-old, who is entering the final year of his contract. That stance has forced Inter to move up, and the current framework – roughly £30m – is now seen as the level that could satisfy all sides.
Sources in Italy believe a verbal agreement is effectively in place.
Inside both clubs, the message is more cautious: there is still work to do, details to iron out, numbers to structure. But the gap has clearly narrowed.
Liverpool are open to a sale. They want a package broadly mirroring the £30m Inter paid Tottenham for Djed Spence, using that deal as a benchmark for what they consider acceptable business for Jones.
Inter’s interest is not new. The Serie A champions made a move in January, proposing a loan with an option to buy. Liverpool rejected that approach, unwilling to lose a senior midfielder on what they viewed as a low-commitment arrangement. This time, with a permanent fee on the table and the clock ticking on Jones’ contract, the landscape has shifted.
Jones has been part of Liverpool’s first team since his breakthrough under Jurgen Klopp in 2019, amassing 228 appearances in all competitions. Last season under Arne Slot he featured 49 times, but only 18 of those came as Premier League starts, as he struggled to nail down a guaranteed role in a crowded midfield.
A move to Inter would offer a fresh stage. For Liverpool, it would be a significant fee for a homegrown player entering the final year of his deal. For Jones, it could be the moment he swaps Anfield for San Siro in search of the regular starting shirt that has too often eluded him on Merseyside.
