Hull City Pursue Roma's Robinio Vaz on Loan
Hull City are closing on a bold move for Roma forward Robinio Vaz, with the newly-promoted Premier League side pushing to land the 19-year-old on a season-long loan with a hefty buy option attached.
Respected reporter David Ornstein of The Athletic says Hull are close to agreeing a deal worth €2m for the loan, with an option to make the transfer permanent for €30m at the end of the season.
For a club just stepping back into the Premier League, it is an aggressive play. For Roma, it could be smart business.
The Italian side only signed Vaz from Marseille in the winter window earlier this year, paying €25m for one of Ligue 1’s brightest young attackers. A permanent sale to Hull at the agreed figure would immediately bank Roma a profit, despite the Brazilian having spent only a few months in the capital.
Vaz arrived in Rome on the back of an eye-catching start to the 2025-26 campaign in France. He struck four goals and supplied two assists in 14 Ligue 1 appearances for Marseille before Roma moved to snap him up midway through the season.
Game time in Serie A proved harder to come by. Vaz made 12 league appearances for Roma, all from the bench, adding just one more goal to his season tally. Even so, his cameos offered enough flashes of promise to keep his reputation intact as a high-ceiling prospect rather than a misstep in the market.
Roma’s wider situation gives the move extra intrigue. There had been strong suggestions earlier in the summer that financial fair play pressures would force the club to cash in on at least one major name. Yet, with the Serie A window entering its final week, Roma have so far resisted selling any of their headline assets. Manu Kone, Wesley and Matias Soule all remain on the books.
That leaves Vaz as a potential compromise: a player with resale value, limited minutes so far, and a Premier League club willing to pay for the upside. If Hull trigger the option next summer, Roma walk away with a profit and room to manoeuvre. If they do not, the Giallorossi get back a 20-year-old forward with English top-flight experience.
For Hull, the calculation is different but just as clear. They are betting that a teenager who has already commanded two sizeable transfer fees can grow into a Premier League match-winner. If that bet pays off, €30m for a developed, top-flight-ready attacker will look like shrewd business rather than a gamble.
The numbers are on the table. Now Hull must finish the job and see if Robinio Vaz is the talent they build their Premier League future around.
