Ferran Torres Nears PSG Move as Barcelona Training Changes
Ferran Torres was again missing from FC Barcelona training on Thursday morning, and this time it felt definitive. For the second day running, the 26-year-old forward stayed away from Hansi Flick’s sessions, with the club maintaining the permission granted as he closes in on a move to PSG.
Torres had originally been scheduled to rejoin full training on Wednesday. Instead, his week has turned into a countdown to Paris. Barcelona and the French champions are locked in the final stretch of negotiations, with all sides now aligned on the outcome.
Deal with PSG almost done
Multiple well-placed sources confirm the transfer is on the brink of completion. The two clubs are ironing out the last details of a package expected to reach around €55 million, including add-ons.
Torres already has a personal agreement in place with PSG. Luis Enrique has reportedly laid out a clear plan for how the Spain international will fit into his squad, which has only accelerated the process. With that roadmap agreed, there is little sense in Ferran risking injury in training while the final signatures are prepared.
So he waits. No boots on the pitch, no rondos with teammates. Just the quiet pause before a major move is made official.
World Cup winners drip back into the group
While Ferran’s absence dominated the headlines, the training ground itself had a different kind of buzz. Three of Barcelona’s recent World Cup winners — Pau Cubarsi, Dani Olmo and Lamine Yamal — stepped back into full group work at the start of Thursday’s session after completing two individualized sessions on Wednesday.
Their return injected quality and energy into Flick’s drills, a reminder of the core the German coach will build around once the market dust settles.
Pedri, though, remains on a different timetable. The midfielder continued working in the gym and did not join the on-pitch work, as the staff manage his load carefully.
Six in limbo as Barça trim the squad
Away from the main group, another story is unfolding — one that speaks to the ruthlessness of pre-season planning.
Marc Casado, Hector Fort, Jofre Torrents, Tommy Marques, Guille Fernandez and Toni Fernandez are still training apart from the first team as they wait for clarity on their futures. All six sit in a kind of sporting limbo while the club pushes to slim down the squad and find exits for players who do not feature in Flick’s immediate plans.
It is a complicated, uncomfortable phase for them. Sessions continue, fitness must be maintained, but every day is shadowed by uncertainty over where they will actually play once the season begins.
Youngsters hold their ground under Flick
Not every academy player is on the way out. A separate group of youngsters remains firmly under Flick’s command — at least for now.
Aron Yaakobishvili, who is himself close to a move to Almeria, stays involved with the first team, alongside Alvaro Cortes, Xavi Espart, Jordi Pesquer, Ebrima Tunkara, Orian Goren, Brian Farinas and forward Hamza Abdelkarim.
They continue to train with the senior squad as Barcelona piece together the final version of their pre-season roster. For them, every drill is an audition, every touch a chance to convince Flick they belong.
