Fabio Vieira Completes €10m Move to Hamburg
Fabio Vieira’s Arsenal chapter is over. The Portuguese midfielder has completed a permanent move to Bundesliga side Hamburg in a deal worth 10m euros (£8.6m).
The 26-year-old had already spent last season with the German club on loan, having returned to Porto the year before for the 2024-25 campaign. Hamburg have now moved to make the arrangement permanent after his performances convinced them he was worth the investment.
Vieira arrived in north London from Porto in 2022, billed as a creative spark for Mikel Arteta’s evolving side. He leaves having made 49 appearances for Arsenal, without ever truly nailing down a regular starting role in a fiercely competitive midfield.
His exit fits a clear theme. Arsenal are actively trimming the squad, with forwards Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli also expected to depart on permanent deals as the club reshapes its attacking options.
There is movement at the other end of the age spectrum too. Highly rated academy product Ethan Nwaneri is close to securing a loan move to Borussia Dortmund, a club with a proven track record of developing young talent at the highest level.
Arsenal’s Squad Refresh
Arsenal’s refresh is gathering pace. The question now is how different this squad will look by the time the window slams shut.
