Enzo Fernández Focused on World Cup Amid Chelsea Exit Speculation

Enzo Fernández’s future at Chelsea may be edging towards the exit door, but his inner circle insists his mind is locked on something far bigger: the World Cup and Argentina’s push towards the knockout rounds.

Speaking to Marca, his representative Uriel Pérez Pastore lifted the lid on the growing noise around the midfielder, acknowledging that the groundwork for a possible move is already under way – without claiming anything is close.

“We’re looking at possibilities for him to leave Chelsea, but there’s nothing concrete or confirmed with any club,” Pastore said. The message was clear: the market is moving, agents are talking, but no deal is on the table yet.

For now, Fernández’s priorities lie thousands of miles from London. “Right now, the player is focused on the national team. He’s playing in a World Cup, and they’re very close to reaching the round of 16,” Pastore explained. Argentina’s campaign has sharpened his concentration, not blurred it.

That hasn’t stopped speculation swirling, particularly around a potential future in Madrid. Fernández himself has spoken warmly about the Spanish capital, a city that inevitably ignites transfer rumours the moment a top player mentions it. Pastore moved quickly to cool the idea that every trip to Madrid carries a hidden agenda.

“He has many friends there, and he’s very good friends with Julian Alvarez, and in the end, they spend all their free time together there. And I also live in Madrid,” he said. “Every time he traveled, it was to see me and to sort out work matters, but besides that: who doesn’t like Madrid? I didn’t even play in Madrid. I even live there.”

The subtext is obvious: Madrid is a hub, a lifestyle choice, a place where players congregate. It is not, at least for now, a coded transfer signal.

While the outside world dissects every quote and every journey, Fernández is quietly putting together a standout tournament. Pastore was unequivocal about his client’s level. “He’s doing well, very positive, he’s having a great World Cup. In the first two matches, he helped the team win comfortably.”

His evolution as a midfielder is part of that story. Once a deeper controller, then a box-arriving threat, Fernández has become a hybrid presence for Argentina. “Enzo has changed his position a lot in recent years. He’s played deep or as a midfielder getting forward into the box,” Pastore noted. “Here with the national team, he starts deep, but ultimately he’s the only midfielder who gets forward and is close to Messi. He’s a player who adapts very well to any position.”

That adaptability is exactly what makes him so attractive to Europe’s elite – and why Chelsea may soon face serious decisions. For now, though, the club intrigue stays in the background. Fernández has a World Cup to chase, Messi to link with, and a last-16 place within touching distance. The transfers can wait; the tournament will not.
