Driouech's Rangers Move Collapses Amid PSV Transfer Issues

Couhaib Driouech’s switch to Rangers is off, abruptly ending a move that looked all but done just days ago.

The 24-year-old winger had already travelled to Scotland to finalise the transfer, but talks in Glasgow broke down, Eindhovens Dagblad reporter Rik Elfrink reported on Friday. No agreement was reached, and Driouech is now heading back to PSV.

The collapse doesn’t just sting sporting ambitions. PSV are waving goodbye to a potential fee of up to €8 million, a significant sum for a player who has yet to make an impact this season.

What exactly derailed the deal remains unclear. There is no detail yet on whether it was finances, contract terms, or another late obstacle. What is certain: Driouech will rejoin the squad in Eindhoven rather than starting a new chapter in Glasgow.

For PSV, this is becoming a pattern they could do without. Driouech’s failed move is the club’s fourth collapsed transfer in five months, following similar frustrations involving Ricardo Pepi, Adamo Nagalo and Armando Obispo. Each case different, the outcome the same: plans drawn up, then torn up.

Driouech’s own position at PSV is now anything but straightforward. Injury has already ruled him out of the opening matches of the season, keeping him on the fringes while the team moved on without him.

During that spell on the sidelines, another name has pushed ahead in the pecking order. Academy product Amir Bouhamdi has seized his chance and is now viewed as being in front of Driouech in the battle for minutes on the wing. Bouhamdi is set to sign a new contract at the Philips Stadion, underlining the club’s faith in their homegrown option.

So Driouech returns to Eindhoven not as a marquee sale that helped reshape the squad, but as a question mark. A winger who almost left, now fighting to matter again.

PSV cannot dwell on it for long. Next up is a trip to Excelsior on Saturday evening, with kick-off at 20:00. They go into that game still searching for rhythm after being held to a 2-2 draw by Fortuna Sittard last weekend.
