Djed Spence Transfer Update: Inter Milan Leads the Race
Djed Spence is back on the radar – and this time, the spotlight has shifted firmly to Italy.
“Now he would be a player of interest. If it’d be Liverpool then I’d want big money for him. I would want a lot of money for him. They took the boy Joe Gomez, who was a South London boy, but Spence is a better player than him.”
That bold claim underlines how highly some in the game rate the Tottenham full-back. But any late twist involving Liverpool or even Arsenal looks a long way off. The road in front of Spence is pointing towards Milan.
Inter move gathers pace
Arsenal have not moved. They have not even really looked in his direction this summer. Their recruitment has not focused on the wide defensive areas, and there has been no sign of a serious push to tempt Spurs into a deal across the north London divide.
Inter Milan, by contrast, have stepped right into the middle of the story.
Spence is understood to want the switch to San Siro, and Inter have already opened club-to-club talks with Tottenham over a permanent transfer. Earlier in the window, the two sides were split on valuation, the numbers sitting too far apart to make an agreement realistic.
The gap now appears to be shrinking.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter are closing in on Spence, with a deal expected to land at around €30million (£25m) plus bonuses. That figure comes in below the fee long associated with Tottenham’s demands for the Englishman, but his desire to join Inter is starting to shape the negotiations.
Tottenham look increasingly ready to soften their stance. When a player is this keen on a move, holding out for every last euro can quickly become a losing battle.
Arsenal angle fades, Inter in control
An Arsenal swoop at this stage would be a genuine shock. For now, the market for Spence feels like a one-club race, with Inter pressing their advantage and Spurs listening.
Could that change? Of course. A new injury, a late reshuffle, a rival club suddenly short at right-back – the dynamics of a window can flip in a day. If conditions shift, other suitors might test Tottenham’s resolve.
But all the current signs point in one direction. If Djed Spence is on the move, it is far more likely to be through the doors at Inter Milan than across the divide in north London.
