Derby County Sign Alex Mowatt from West Brom

Derby County have landed midfielder Alex Mowatt from West Bromwich Albion on a two-year deal, ending a brief but sharp transfer tussle between the Championship rivals.

The Rams moved quickly. Their first bid was knocked back just two days ago, but they returned to the table and have now struck an agreement for an undisclosed fee.

Mowatt, 31, arrives with heavy mileage at this level. The former Leeds United and Barnsley playmaker had one year left on his West Brom contract, having joined the Baggies in the summer of 2021.

His final outing in Albion colours came only last week, in the Carabao Cup first-round win over Rotherham – the 170th appearance of his West Brom career, and now his last before switching to Derby’s promotion push.
