Deniz Undav Extends Contract with VfB Stuttgart Until 2029

Deniz Undav has tied his future to VfB Stuttgart, signing a new contract that runs until 2029 and includes an option for a further year – a statement of intent from both club and player at the peak of his powers.

The Germany international has grown into the heartbeat of Sebastian Hoeneß’s attack since arriving from Brighton and Hove Albion on loan in the summer of 2023, a deal that quickly turned permanent and even more quickly turned into a coup. In 86 Bundesliga appearances for Stuttgart, Undav has produced 46 goals and 18 assists, numbers that place him firmly among the elite forwards in the division.

This is not a short purple patch. It is the body of work of a striker who has reshaped a club’s ambitions.

Undav made it clear what the extension means to him. He described himself as “over the moon” to continue in Stuttgart, calling the contract “so much” to him and speaking of the club and city as a “second home” built over the past three years. From the first day, he said, the welcome for him and his family came “with open arms and a lot of love” – the sort of bond that turns a transfer into a long-term alliance.

The feeling is mutual in the boardroom. Fabian Wohlgemuth, Stuttgart’s board member for sport, called securing Undav for another three years “an absolute winner” for both sides. He pointed to the striker’s rise to Germany international status and linked his impact directly to VfB’s resurgence: runners-up in the Bundesliga, DFB Cup winners and, most recently, qualification for the Champions League once again.

Those achievements did not happen in isolation. They arrived with Undav on the pitch, finishing moves, linking play, dragging defenders out of position, and giving Hoeneß a focal point around which to build a high-tempo, front-foot side.

The timing of the deal is no coincidence. With the FIFA World Cup 2026 on the horizon in Canada, Mexico and the USA, Undav has been named in Julian Nagelsmann’s 26-man Germany squad and is expected to carry a key role for the national team. Stuttgart have moved early, locking down their talisman before the global spotlight intensifies.

For VfB, it is a contract. For Undav, it is an anchor. For the rest of the Bundesliga, it is a warning that one of the league’s most ruthless forwards has no intention of going anywhere.
