Cristian Volpato Faces Cocaine Allegations After Speeding Incidents in Sydney

Cristian Volpato, known for his performances with Australia during the World Cup, reportedly tested positive for cocaine after being stopped twice for speeding in Sydney. The 22-year-old, who made three appearances for Australia in the tournament, had switched his international allegiance from Italy before the event.

According to New South Wales police, Volpato was caught driving at 109 km/h on the Anzac Bridge around 1 a.m. Friday, which is 50 km/h over the speed limit. He underwent a roadside drug test that allegedly detected cocaine. Authorities confirmed a second sample would be analyzed, and Volpato’s driver’s license has been suspended for six months.

Earlier the same night, at about 11 p.m. Thursday, Volpato was pulled over for driving more than 20 km/h above the limit. Police issued an infringement notice then. Although he took an alcohol test at that time, it showed no presence of alcohol.

Volpato currently plays club football with Italian team Sassuolo. Born in Sydney, he represented Italy at the Under-20 level after joining Roma in 2020 but later chose to play for Australia at senior international level.
