Colin Dagba Joins Carrarese on Free Transfer
Carrarese have moved decisively in the market, snapping up former Paris Saint-Germain right-back Colin Dagba on a free transfer and tying him down to a long-term deal.
The 27-year-old arrives after leaving Belgian side Beerschot on July 1 and has signed with the Serie B club until June 30, 2028. The contract carries an automatic extension clause, triggered if he hits specific performance targets – a clear sign that Carrarese see him as a cornerstone rather than a short-term fix.
From Paris lights to a Tuscan reset
For Dagba, this is a reset as much as a move. Once a highly rated France Under-21 international at PSG, he now steps into a very different environment, chasing rhythm and relevance in Italian football.
Carrarese made no attempt to play down the scale of the signing in their official announcement. They highlighted his blend of technique and athleticism, describing the French right-back, born in 1998, as a player with “impressive attacking ability, pace, and prowess in attacking play.”
They were just as keen to stress that he is no luxury full-back. The club underlined his work without the ball, noting that he remains “consistently alert and consistent in defense, especially in marking.” For a side trying to steady itself near the bottom half of the table, that balance matters.
A CV built at the top
Dagba brings a résumé that dwarfs the level Carrarese usually shop in. He made 77 senior appearances for PSG across all competitions, including seven outings in the Champions League, sharing a dressing room with some of the game’s biggest names and operating under intense scrutiny in the French capital.
His time at the Parc des Princes delivered silverware in bulk: three Ligue 1 titles, two Coupe de France wins, and two Trophee des Champions triumphs. Loan spells at Strasbourg and Auxerre followed, adding more top-flight experience and tactical schooling in different systems.
Now that experience is being imported into Gabriele Cioffi’s dressing room, where Carrarese are desperate for a stabilising influence on the right flank and a bit of big-club mentality in a squad still feeling its way into the season.
Immediate test against Empoli
The timing of the deal could hardly be more pointed. Carrarese sit 14th in Serie B, with just one point from their opening two league fixtures. The margin for early-season error is already shrinking.
Dagba is in line for an immediate debut when Carrarese host Empoli on September 5, in matchday three. It is only the third game of the campaign, but the stakes feel heavier than that. A weekend home fixture, a new high-profile signing, a fanbase looking for a spark – it all adds up to an early litmus test.
If Dagba settles quickly and brings even a fraction of his Paris pedigree to Tuscany, that right flank could become a very different proposition. The question now is simple: does this move mark the moment Carrarese’s season finally kicks into gear?
