Christos Tzolis: Manchester United's Next Target from Club Brugge

Christos Tzolis has been told to aim straight for the top – and that top, in the eyes of some in Belgium, is Manchester United.

The Club Brugge winger has ripped through the Jupiler Pro League this season, dragging himself onto the radar of England’s elite with the sort of numbers that force even the biggest clubs to stop and stare. At 24, he has stacked up 22 goals and 29 assists in all competitions for the Belgian champions. Twenty-three of those assists have come in the league alone, a tally that eclipses even Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes’ output.

Those are not the figures of a promising prospect. They are the numbers of a player ready to move.

A left flank United can’t ignore

Tzolis operates mainly off the left, driving inside, stretching full-backs, and creating chaos. That profile explains the interest from Old Trafford, where the recruitment team is actively searching for a left-sided forward to reshape the front line.

United’s wish list has featured high-end names. RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande and Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers are among the leading options, but both come with a brutal price tag – up to £100 million each. INEOS, now steering football operations at United, have been quoted figures that would swallow a huge chunk of their summer budget.

That reality pushes Tzolis into sharper focus. He offers production, versatility across the frontline, and, crucially, value.

Club Brugge do not want to lose their star man. Inside the club, there is an acceptance, though, that this kind of season brings suitors you cannot simply brush aside. Europe’s heavyweights are circling, and with them comes the prospect of a club-record sale.

The current high-water mark is Ardon Jashari’s move to AC Milan for €36 million (£31.2m) last summer. Any deal for Tzolis is expected to surpass that. Even then, the total would likely land at around a third of what United have been asked to pay for Diomande or Rogers. For a club trying to rebuild smartly under INEOS, that kind of differential matters.

They are not alone in the chase. Arsenal, Aston Villa and Chelsea are all tracking the Greek international, while Juventus are also exploring a move from Serie A. This is not a quiet bidding war in the shadows. It is gathering pace.

“United could convince me”

Tzolis has not exactly tried to cool the speculation.

Speaking to DAZN, he was asked directly about the interest from England’s top clubs. His answer will have pricked ears in Manchester.

“United could convince me. Such a massive club with so much history. It would be hard to say no to that,” he admitted, smiling as he spoke. He also made clear that he is not interested in a mid-table Premier League move, dismissing the idea of a club like Crystal Palace.

That line alone changes the tone of the story. This is not simply agents briefing, or background noise. The player himself is looking upwards, and he sees the Premier League’s traditional giants as the natural next step.

Hein Vanhaezebrouck, one of Belgian football’s most respected coaches, has gone further, actively urging Tzolis to take the leap.

“I hope he ends up in the Premier League. That level suits him,” the 62-year-old said. “Clubs like Arsenal, Manchester United, and certainly Liverpool would be an excellent step.”

When coaches inside the same footballing ecosystem start talking like that, it usually means one thing: they believe the player has outgrown the league.

INEOS and the Belgian blueprint

If INEOS need any reassurance about shopping in Belgium again, they only have to look at their own squad list.

Last summer, they sanctioned an £18.1m move for Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp. The 23-year-old arrived as a highly rated but unproven goalkeeper outside his home country. He leaves this season with a very different label.

Lammens has brought calm and authority to United’s goal, racking up 32 Premier League appearances, conceding 39 times and anchoring a defence that finally found some stability. He added four more outings in the Jupiler Pro League and featured in the FA Cup as well, taking his total to 37 games and 3,330 minutes across all competitions.

His impact did not go unnoticed. The Athletic named him signing of the season, a rare accolade for a goalkeeper and a powerful endorsement of the club’s decision to look beyond the usual transfer markets.

The lesson is clear. The jump from the Jupiler Pro League to the Premier League can be made – and made quickly – if the profile is right.

Tzolis, with his end product, age, and hunger for a move to the very top, fits that template with a twist. Same league, different position, different personality – but the same opportunity for United to get ahead of the curve.

The question now is simple: do they pay three times as much for the established Premier League name, or trust their scouting, back the numbers, and let Belgium’s next outstanding export light up Old Trafford?
