Chelsea Completes Sale of Marc Guiu to RB Leipzig

Chelsea have approved the permanent sale of striker Marc Guiu to RB Leipzig, clearing the way for the Spaniard to swap west London for the Bundesliga.

The 20-year-old is expected to complete his move to Leipzig, though voices in Germany are stressing that some details still need to be ironed out before the deal is officially done. The fee remains under wraps, but Guiu has been valued at around £25m, a sharp rise on what Chelsea paid barely a year ago.

Chelsea picked him up from boyhood club Barcelona in 2024 for about £5m, a low‑risk gamble on a highly rated Spain Under-21 international with a reputation for penalty-box instincts. Now, after a brief and uneven spell in England, that bet looks set to yield a substantial profit.

Guiu’s time on the pitch for Chelsea never truly caught fire. He made 29 appearances in total, many of them off the bench, but still found a way to leave a mark in Europe. Six of his eight goals for the club came in the 2024-25 Conference League, where he emerged as a key figure in Chelsea’s successful campaign.

Domestically, his story was more stop-start. A short loan at Sunderland last season brought just three matches and little rhythm. By this summer, the writing was on the wall: Guiu trained away from the main first-team group, a clear sign that the club expected him to move on.

Leipzig, with their track record of developing young forwards, now look set to take on that project.

Chelsea’s reshaping of their young core does not end there. Midfielder Kendry Paez has been recalled from an unsuccessful loan at River Plate, with the club keen to free up an overseas loan slot. The plan is for Paez to head back out, likely to another loan club and potentially to England, as Chelsea continue to shuffle pieces in a crowded squad.

One striker out, one prodigy on the move again. Chelsea’s youth revolution is still in motion, but the cast is changing fast.
