Chelsea's Pursuit of Manu Koné Continues

Chelsea’s chase for Manu Koné isn’t over. The window is shut, the paperwork’s done, but his name refuses to leave the market chatter.

In the frantic final hours of the summer window, the French midfielder was at the centre of one of Chelsea’s late pushes. The London club moved for him and opened talks with Roma, sensing an opportunity to add power and personality to their midfield.

Then came the brick wall: Gian Piero Gasperini.

The Roma manager dug in and blocked the move, viewing Koné as a key piece of his project. His stance proved decisive. With Gasperini unwilling to lose a player he considers fundamental, negotiations stalled and the proposed switch to the Premier League collapsed.

But the story is only paused, not finished.

Sport.FR in France reports that Chelsea have not walked away. Far from it. The club are still tracking Koné and are expected to revisit the deal as early as the January window, when the market opens again and pressure inevitably rises.

For now, Koné stays in Rome. Gasperini keeps his midfielder, Chelsea keep their interest, and Trigoria may yet hear another knock on the door when winter comes.
