Chelsea's Pursuit of Alex Scott Faces Setback as Bournemouth Stays Firm

Chelsea’s summer plan always had a midfield twist. Enzo Fernandez is expected to go, and the club identified one man to step straight into the space he leaves behind: Alex Scott.

For now, that plan is in pieces.

Chelsea moved quickly in the early weeks of the window, ticking off most of their business while others were still negotiating. But the central midfield slot was always the big one. They locked onto Scott, ignored the warnings, and pushed hard.

Bournemouth pushed back harder.

The “amazing” midfielder, coming off another impressive season, has drawn serious attention across the league. Talks over a new contract on the south coast were paused last month, which only fuelled speculation that a move could be on the horizon.

Instead, Bournemouth have drawn a line.

The club have told players, agents and suitors the same thing: their key men are staying put for the new campaign. No cut-price exits. No late-window raids. Not even for a fee that would reshape their balance sheet.

Europa League changes everything

Bournemouth’s stance is not just stubbornness. It is strategic.

After qualifying for the Europa League, the club studied how Premier League sides have handled the jump to European football. The conclusion was blunt: those who ripped up their squads or cashed in on stars often paid for it later. Those who kept a settled core coped better with the extra load.

So Scott stays. That is the plan.

The club want new manager Marco Rose to walk into a dressing room he recognises from day one, not one stripped of its best talent in the final week of the window. Most of their own transfer business was done early, a deliberate move that gave Rose clarity and sent a sharp message to any circling heavyweights: if you’re coming, you’re probably too late.

Manchester City have also tracked Scott, but Bournemouth’s refusal to talk has forced them to look elsewhere. The same report notes that one of City’s alternatives is, intriguingly, Enzo Fernandez himself.

That twist only tightens Chelsea’s dilemma.
