Casemiro Defends Neymar's World Cup Spot: No Proof Needed
Casemiro has had enough of the noise.
Every time Brazil’s 2026 World Cup campaign is mentioned, one question drowns out the rest: will Neymar be there? For the Manchester United midfielder, the constant speculation around his long-time teammate has become tiresome.
“It is annoying because everyone talks about it, and everyone asks about it. I am sincerely a friend of Neymar,” Casemiro told ESPN, the frustration evident as he addressed the saga surrounding the Santos forward.
This is not a casual opinion from a distant colleague. Casemiro and Neymar grew up in the same footballing orbit, shared dressing rooms, tournaments, pressure.
“I am a guy who has played with Neymar since I was 12,” he said. “And so, it goes like this: Is Neymar going or not? And everyone fixates on that.”
The fixation is obvious. Neymar, now 34, is no longer the explosive prodigy who lit up Barcelona and carried Brazil’s hopes almost by default. He is a superstar who has been dragged down by injuries and fitness doubts, and every setback fuels the same debate: is he still worth building around?
Casemiro’s answer could not be clearer.
“I think it is very clear, especially in my opinion. Neymar doesn’t have to prove anything to anyone,” he insisted.
For him, the discussion is not about legacy, mentality, or desire. It comes down to one thing: can Neymar’s body cope with another World Cup?
“Ancelotti and everyone else made it very clear, it’s the physical issue, because in terms of talent, we don’t even have to talk here about the great player he is.”
There is no ambiguity there. If Neymar is fit, Casemiro believes he has to be on the plane. The rest, in his eyes, is just noise.
Brazil will not have time for distractions once the tournament begins next month. Drawn into Group C, they face a tricky and varied set of opponents: Morocco, hardened by recent deep runs on the international stage; Haiti, eager and unpredictable; and Scotland, stubborn and combative.
In a group like that, experience and star power can tilt tight games. Casemiro knows it. So does Neymar. The question now is whether his body lets him answer it on the pitch.
