Rashford first. Despite fresh noise from Turkey and talk of Fenerbahce interest, the stance inside United hasn’t shifted for weeks: the expectation remains that he stays at Old Trafford this season. That view is shared across the key parties and, as things stand, nothing has broken that line.

His football is starting to back that up. In the defeat at Hull City last week, Rashford was one of United’s brighter players after coming on at half-time, injecting some urgency into a flat performance. On that evidence, there is a genuine chance he is promoted to the starting XI for Ipswich’s visit to Old Trafford on Sunday.

Zirkzee’s situation feels far less settled. Fiorentina have stepped up with an approach, testing the water over a deal for the Netherlands forward. Italian interest in the 23-year-old has been bubbling all summer; now the question is whether any of the other Serie A clubs who have tracked him decide to firm up their admiration with a serious offer.

The shape of any agreement could prove decisive. Fiorentina are exploring a loan, but United’s preference is clear: a permanent sale, or at the very least a loan that includes an obligation to buy. A simple temporary move does little for United’s longer-term planning.
