Burnley Sign Highly Rated Defender Alleyne for Promotion Push

Burnley have moved to sharpen their promotion push by bringing in highly rated 21-year-old defender Alleyne, who spent the first half of the 2025-26 campaign on loan at Championship rivals Watford before being recalled by Manchester City during an injury crisis.

City trusted him on big nights last season. He made seven appearances under Pep Guardiola, including both legs of the EFL Cup semi-final against Newcastle United and a Champions League outing against Bodo/Glimt, a clear sign of how highly the Premier League champions regard his temperament on the biggest stage.

At Watford, he did more than just make up the numbers. In league action he produced the second-most tackles (20) of any defender at the club, won the third-most duels (72) and registered the fourth-most clearances (76). Those are the numbers of a defender who relishes the dirty work, the kind Burnley will lean on as they try to muscle their way back to the top flight at the first attempt.

Relegation has reset the landscape at Turf Moor. Alleyne arrives with fresh legs, elite coaching in his locker and a point to prove. The England Under-21 international has already thrown himself into it.

"I'm super excited, I can't wait to get going," he told the club’s website after completing the move. "I had my first training session today and I've really enjoyed it so far, meeting the manager and my teammates.

"I first heard of the interest a couple of months ago now and I'm so glad it got done. It's a huge team, a Premier League team to be honest and I'm so buzzing to be here."

Burnley see themselves exactly that way: a Premier League club temporarily stranded in the Championship. Alleyne has just signed up to help drag them back.
