Bayern Munich Targets Nick Woltemade as Future No 9
Bayern Munich are already casting their gaze beyond Harry Kane – and Newcastle United striker Nick Woltemade is emerging as a serious candidate to inherit the No 9 role in Munich, according to talkSPORT.
Kane is still rewriting records at Allianz Arena, recently becoming the fastest player ever to hit 100 goals for the club. He remains ruthless, relentless, everything Bayern paid for. But he is 33. Even a goal machine has a clock.
Inside the club, decision-makers have started to map out what comes next at the top of their attack. Woltemade, who left Stuttgart for Newcastle last summer, sits high on that list as a long-term option and a potential returnee to German football.
A deal Bayern still expect to do
European football expert Andy Brassell believes the move is more a matter of “when” than “if”, despite Woltemade’s uneven form over the last year in England and now Italy.
The Germany international struck eight Premier League goals in his first season at Newcastle, a respectable haul for a debut campaign. But his form tailed off badly after the turn of the year, with just two more league goals before he left for Juventus on deadline day.
Brassell suggested Bayern had once felt in pole position for the 24-year-old before Newcastle swooped, and that the Bundesliga giants could now sense an opportunity to land him at a lower price.
“I still think Woltemade will end up at Bayern at some point,” Brassell said. “They were convinced he would go there before Newcastle. Bayern will look at his situation and think they could get him for pennies on the pound in the future.”
Slow start in Turin
For now, Woltemade is trying to restart his career in Turin. It has not caught fire yet.
At Juventus, he has been limited to just 44 minutes across two substitute appearances, sharing a misfiring frontline with Randal Kolo Muani. Three efforts on goal, none on target. Little rhythm, even less confidence.
Before his loan switch, he had only featured twice for Newcastle this season, though he did provide an assist in a 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur. Then came the move to Serie A and a new challenge that has yet to properly begin.
Brassell highlighted Juventus’ broader attacking issues, with the club still trying to piece together a coherent forward line. In that uncertainty, both Woltemade and Kolo Muani are scrapping for form and status rather than thriving within a settled structure.
Bayern watching, Woltemade waiting
Despite the stuttering start in Italy, Bayern’s interest has not cooled. Woltemade is 24, entering what should be his prime years, and still carries the raw tools that made him one of the most intriguing German forwards of his age group.
Bayern plan to track his development closely throughout his loan spell at Juventus, weighing up whether this season can be the springboard that finally justifies a formal bid.
For Woltemade, the next step comes in Europe. He is hoping to ignite his Bianconeri career when Juventus host Dutch side NEC Nijmegen in their Europa League opener.
A strong campaign on that stage would not just catch Bayern’s eye again. It could drag a whole queue of heavyweight clubs back into the conversation – and turn a quiet loan in Turin into the launchpad for the next big German No 9.
