Bayern Munich's Pursuit of Bradley Barcola Amidst PSG Standoff
Paris Saint-Germain have named their price. €90 million or nothing. Bayern Munich, for now, are standing their ground.
The German champions have admired Bradley Barcola for more than a year. They were in the race last summer, along with several other heavyweights, before PSG shut the door. Bayern pivoted and dropped around €70 million on Luis Diaz from Liverpool instead – a move that has turned into a statement signing and a constant threat from the flanks.
Yet even with Diaz on board, the hunt in Munich has not stopped. The club want another forward who can play across the line, stretch games, and live in tight spaces between the lines.
That search has thrown up a familiar list of names.
Gordon, Diomande… and the Barcola question
Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon fits the profile almost perfectly. Direct, aggressive, and hungry for a move away from St. James’ Park, he has been heavily linked with Bayern and could operate off either side or in support of Harry Kane and Luka Jovic.
Inside the club, though, there is a different name at the top of the wishlist. According to The Athletic, RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande is currently viewed as Bayern’s priority attacking target. Younger, malleable, and already accustomed to the Bundesliga tempo, he offers a cleaner, more controllable deal.
So where does that leave Barcola?
The 23-year-old is stuck in a holding pattern in Paris. His role has shrunk to that of a high‑class reserve, a weapon off the bench rather than a guaranteed starter. He was sent on twice late in the Champions League semi-final against Bayern, a reminder of his talent but also of his status in the squad: useful, not indispensable.
He is far from content with that.
Barcola is understood to be unhappy with his situation and has already rejected a contract extension. His current deal runs until 2028, which gives PSG all the leverage they need. They do not have to sell next summer. They do not even have to listen – unless the player forces the issue and digs in.
Numbers that refuse to be ignored
For a “reserve”, his output remains loud. After a standout 2024/25 season in which he produced 40 goal contributions in 58 appearances, Barcola has still found a way to post twelve goals and seven assists this term despite restricted minutes.
Those numbers travel well. They land on desks in London, Barcelona, Munich.
Sky reports that several top clubs are already in contact with his representatives. FC Barcelona, Liverpool and Arsenal are all in the frame, with Arsenal said to have intensified their efforts in recent weeks. The Premier League’s financial muscle means PSG’s €90 million valuation would not scare them off if they decide he is the missing piece.
For now, though, there is a standstill. PSG have yet to receive a concrete offer. Just conversations, positioning, and the usual shadow play of a long transfer window.
Bayern remain in the picture, watching, weighing Barcola against Gordon, against Diomande, against the balance of a squad already reshaped by the arrival of Diaz. PSG sit on a long contract and a firm price. The player sits on the bench, waiting to see which side blinks first.
