Hansi Flick Reacts to Barcelona’s Surprise €10 Million Signing of Gabriel Jesus from Arsenal

Barcelona stunned many by finalizing the transfer of Gabriel Jesus from Arsenal for just €10 million on the deadline day. The Brazilian striker, aged 29, completed his move and signed a two-year contract after arriving in Catalonia.

Jesus was at Camp Nou to witness his new team’s dominant 5-2 win over Rayo Vallecano, a victory that kept Barca unbeaten with three straight wins in La Liga this season. He will be officially introduced as the club’s sixth major signing of the summer transfer window.

Flick Expresses Surprise at Low Transfer Fee

Hansi Flick, the head coach of Barcelona, admitted he didn’t expect to secure Jesus for such a modest fee so late in the transfer window. Flick said to ESPN, "I was a little surprised we had the opportunity to get him. I really love him, I like his style to play football, it fits with our style. I think he can help us a lot in the games."

Deco Praised for Busy Transfer Window

The signing comes after a hectic summer at Camp Nou, where sporting director Deco brought in Anthony Gordon, Karim Adeyemi, Rodri, Joao Cancelo, and Dominik Livakovic. Flick acknowledged Deco’s critical role in securing Jesus:

"For us, he can be an important player, so thanks to Deco because again he made an excellent job," Flick stated.

Before Jesus, Barcelona attempted to sign Julian Alvarez but were blocked by rivals Atletico Madrid, who refused negotiations.

Deadline Day Activity and Upcoming Matches

With the transfer window closing Tuesday evening, Barcelona is still open to signing a centre-back, but time is running short. When asked about possible last-minute additions, Flick said, "I don’t think so, but we will see."

Now fully integrated, Jesus will join the squad as they prepare for their next La Liga game against Valencia at Mestalla.
