Barcelona Secures Karim Adeyemi on a Five-Year Deal from Borussia Dortmund

Barcelona have officially signed Karim Adeyemi from Borussia Dortmund, with the forward committing to a five-year contract at Camp Nou. The transfer fee has not been made public, but reports from ESPN suggest an initial sum of €22 million (£18.8 million), plus an additional €7 million (£6 million) in potential bonuses.

As part of the agreement, Dortmund is expected to receive a cut from any future profit should Barcelona sell Adeyemi later on. The 24-year-old attacker developed his talents in Bayern Munich’s youth setup before breaking through professionally with Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg in 2018.

Adeyemi’s Career Progression

At Salzburg, Adeyemi tallied 33 goals and 24 assists across 94 matches before transferring to Dortmund in summer 2022. During his time in Germany, he featured in 146 games across all competitions, netting 36 times and assisting 25 goals.

The German international also boasts impressive Champions League experience, having played 48 matches with 16 goals and seven assists. His arrival will bolster a Barcelona offense that already added Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United this summer.

"FC Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund have reached an agreement for the transfer of forward Karim Adeyemi, who has signed a contract with the Catalans until 2031," the club stated."He can operate on either wing or as a central striker, blending blistering pace with a powerful left foot. These traits make him a strong asset for coach Hansi Flick, who is familiar with Adeyemi from his senior debut with the German national team when Flick was in charge."

Possible Debut and Fitness Status

Adeyemi was not part of Germany’s squad at the 2026 World Cup and arrives at Barcelona fully fit. While he may not feature in Friday’s preseason friendly against CE Europa, he is expected to join the squad for their trip to England next week.

His first opportunity to appear could come in a friendly versus Birmingham City on July 31. Officially, his competitive debut might be in Barcelona’s La Liga opener against Elche on August 23.
