Barcelona Set to Sign Manchester City's Rodri for £65 Million

Barcelona have reached an agreement to sign midfielder Rodri from Manchester City in a deal worth £65 million. The Spanish champions are set to offer the player a four-year contract, with the transfer expected to be finalized within days.

Rodri departs Manchester City after seven years, originally moving from Atletico Madrid in 2019 for £62.8 million. During his time in England, he collected 12 major trophies including four Premier League titles, two FA Cups, three EFL Cups, and a Champions League win. Despite a serious knee injury sidelining him for much of last season, he returned strongly to captain Spain to World Cup victory this summer.

With Rodri leaving, Manchester City are eyeing Chelsea's Enzo Fernandez as his replacement. Chelsea has set a £120 million asking price and gave interested clubs until Friday to make formal offers. No bids arrived by the deadline, so Chelsea hopes to keep their vice-captain for now.

Manchester City still believe negotiations could resume. Matching the £120 million would place Fernandez's transfer among football’s top four most expensive moves. City’s management is carefully considering options while seeking to strengthen their midfield.

Maresca Plans Tactical Changes Around Fernandez

Manager Enzo Maresca is a big fan of Fernandez, having coached him at Chelsea. Maresca made Fernandez captain when Reece James was injured and selected him in 79 of his 92 matches at Stamford Bridge. Although Fernandez usually plays as a defensive midfielder, Maresca moved him further upfield last season due to injuries, leading to Fernandez scoring a personal best 15 goals.

With new signing Elliot Anderson joining from Nottingham Forest, Maresca will have flexibility in midfield. Both Anderson and Fernandez could start together, allowing tactical variety.
