Barcelona Prepares for New Signings Before La Liga Season

Barcelona believe the paperwork will not get in the way of their revamped squad when the new La Liga season starts this weekend.

Club sources, via SPORT, indicate that the Catalans expect to have all of their first-team reinforcements registered in time for Sunday’s opener against Elche, with the administrative process starting today, Thursday. The clock is ticking, but inside the club there is a sense of control rather than panic.

Flick expecting full attacking arsenal

The plan is clear: Hansi Flick should be able to call on every new senior signing for his first league line-up at the club.

Barcelona are currently operating under La Liga’s 1:1 rule, which allows them to register new arrivals as long as the outgoing and incoming numbers balance out in sporting and financial terms. It is a far more manageable scenario than the tight restrictions that strangled their transfer operations in recent summers.

That does not mean it is as simple as sending a list of names to La Liga. Each registration must be backed by detailed sporting and financial documentation, checked and validated. Barcelona want that work wrapped up with a margin to spare, not squeezed into the final hours before the Elche game.

Among the headline additions expected to be cleared are Rodri, Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi.

  • Rodri, signed from Manchester City on a deal running until 2030, is widely seen inside the club as the marquee arrival of the summer.
  • Gordon was the first operation Barcelona closed in this window, setting the tone for a more aggressive market strategy.
  • Adeyemi has been added to sharpen Flick’s options in the final third.

Hamza Abdelkarim also features in the club’s planning after Barcelona activated their purchase option on the player, reinforcing depth and flexibility in the squad structure. Young prospect Jesse Bisiwu will be registered with the reserve team, but he is expected to remain plugged into the wider first-team dynamic under Flick.

Cancelo, the late arrival and the tricky file

One name does not yet sit as comfortably on the list: Joao Cancelo.

The Portuguese full-back arrived later than the rest of the new faces, leaving the club with a narrower window to fit his registration into La Liga’s framework. That timing makes his presence against Elche the least certain of the group.

Even so, the mood around the operation remains optimistic. Barcelona are working on outgoing moves and salary-space adjustments designed to open the necessary room to complete Cancelo’s registration. Inside the club, the expectation is that the right conditions will be created without major drama.

Another dossier that needs careful handling is that of Andreas Christensen, whose situation also touches on the club’s salary structure and registration planning.

Barcelona have lived this tension before, racing to beat deadlines and squeeze signings under the cap. This time, with the 1:1 rule on their side and the bulk of the work already mapped out, they are determined that the story of their summer rebuild will be decided on the pitch against Elche, not at the registration desk.
