Atlético Madrid's 500 Million Clause Condition for Julián Álvarez
Atlético Madrid have put a striking condition in front of Julián Álvarez – one that could redraw his future as early as next summer.
The Argentine forward, tied to the club until 2030, pushed hard to leave in the last transfer window. He wanted out. Barcelona came calling, and he was ready to go. Atlético’s response was blunt: no sale.

According to Spanish journalist Pipe Estrada on “El Chiringuito”, chief executive Miguel Ángel Gil Marín has privately promised Álvarez that the wall can come down – but only if the striker delivers on the pitch.
The condition is clear: hit 20 goals this season, and the club will lower the release clause.
Estrada put it plainly: “Miguel Ángel Gil Marín promised Julián that he would lower the value of the release clause in his contract if he reaches 20 goals.”
On the same programme, journalists Jota Jordi and José Álvarez were more cautious. They did not fully confirm the exact clause condition, yet they did point to something just as significant – a change in Atlético’s internal stance on a future sale. The club that refused to even talk in the summer now appears more open to listening down the line.
From tension to praise
The promise comes after a rocky spell between player and club. Reports in Spain describe a difficult period for Álvarez after the window shut, with frustration over the blocked Barcelona move and the uncertainty around his future.
Time, and performances, have started to smooth things over.
Álvarez’s attitude in training has drawn praise inside the club. His standout display against Liverpool at Anfield, despite Atlético’s defeat, landed especially well with the hierarchy. He was one of the few bright sparks on a tough night, and people at the top noticed.
So much so that Gil Marín picked up the phone himself. The CEO called Álvarez after the match to congratulate him on his level, his performance, and, crucially, his mentality in the middle of all the noise.

For Diego Simeone, there is no debate in the short term. Álvarez remains a pillar of his project. He is expected to keep his leading role this season, carrying both responsibility and expectation in attack.
