Aston Villa Signs Wan-Bissaka from West Ham on Loan

Aston Villa have agreed a deal to bring West Ham defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka to the Midlands, landing the DR Congo right-back on an initial loan with an obligation to buy at the end of the season.

Wan-Bissaka has been granted permission to travel for his medical as Villa move to strengthen Unai Emery’s options on the right side of defence. The finer details of the agreement remain under wraps, but West Ham had been asking suitors to meet a £25m price tag.

The 28-year-old has sat out West Ham’s first two Championship fixtures while talks progressed, a clear sign the London club were preparing for life without him.

West Ham's Summer Departures

West Ham’s summer has already been dominated by major outgoing deals. Mateus Fernandes has joined Tottenham for £85m and Crysencio Summerville has gone for £60m, significant sales that reshape the squad but have been offset, in part, by captain Jarrod Bowen committing his future with a new contract.

Aston Villa's Transfer Activity

Villa’s window has been just as intense, but in a very different way.

The club sanctioned one of the headline moves of the summer when Morgan Rogers left for Chelsea in a £117m deal, a sale that has helped push Villa to the lowest net spend in the Premier League. Once all the business is tallied, their outlay sits at around £110m after sales.

Low net spend, high activity. Villa have been busy.

They have rebuilt key areas of the squad with the arrivals of midfielders Johan Manzambi and Joao Gomes, adding energy and bite in the centre of the pitch. Chelsea winger Alejandro Garnacho has also come in on a loan with an obligation to buy, giving Emery another direct, high-tempo option in the final third.

At the back, highly rated young centre-back Modou Keba Cisse has been added as a long-term project, a defender Villa believe can grow into a major figure.

Now Wan-Bissaka is set to slot into that evolving picture, a specialist right-back with top-flight experience joining a club that insists it is strengthening while still keeping a tight grip on the balance sheet.
