Arteta Downplays Contract Concerns Ahead of City Opener

Mikel Arteta is walking into the new season with his contract ticking down, but the Arsenal manager is in no mood to panic.

Back in May, co-chairman Josh Kroenke made it clear that tying Arteta down to a new deal was high on the club’s to-do list. The weeks have passed, the season curtain-raiser against Manchester City in Cardiff is here, and still no announcement.

Arteta’s message? Relax.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, the Spaniard moved quickly to calm any nerves in the stands.

"They [the fans] don't have to worry about any of that, because I want to be here. I am extremely happy. I feel very grateful to work with the people that I work with and when we have the possibility, we will resolve that. And that's it."

No drama. No brinkmanship. Just a manager who sounds utterly at ease with his situation.

For Arteta, the real noise right now comes from the transfer market. That, he says, is where the club’s energy is going.

"There is always another priority, I think! And that's the way we have been treating it, I think because everybody feels comfortable that the time on the contract is not going to be an issue."

The stance is clear: squad building first, signatures later. Arsenal’s hierarchy and head coach appear to be moving in lockstep.

Arteta underlined that alignment again, stressing the shared vision behind the scenes.

"I think because my will, certainly, is to be here and I am very happy here. My feeling from the club is the same one. That is why everyone is doing things in a really organic way."

No countdown clock. No public negotiating. Just a manager preparing for Manchester City, convinced that the rest will take care of itself.
