Arsenal Sign Liverpool's Teenage Striker Vincent Joseph
Arsenal are set to raid Liverpool’s academy, having reached an agreement to sign England youth striker Vincent Joseph this summer.
The Athletic reports that Arsenal have an agreement in place with the 16-year-old forward, with only the compensation fee between the clubs still to be resolved. Joseph will leave Anfield after his schoolboy registration expired, opening the door for one of the Premier League champions’ biggest domestic rivals to move in.
Arsenal move for Liverpool prospect
Joseph, an England under-16 international, has been on the radar of top clubs after a prolific season at youth level. He has scored eight goals in nine appearances for England’s under-16s and has already featured for Liverpool’s under-18s in the Premier League.
Liverpool offered scholarship terms, but Joseph did not sign this summer, leaving him free to negotiate with other sides. Arsenal stepped in and have now secured an agreement with the player, adding another highly rated teenager to a growing youth intake under Mikel Arteta and the club’s academy staff.
The transfer is not a straightforward poaching of a free agent. Because Joseph is under 24 and has been developed by Liverpool, a compensation fee must be agreed between the clubs. Talks are ongoing.
If Arsenal and Liverpool cannot settle on a figure, the case will go to a tribunal via the Professional Football Compensation Committee. That panel would set the fee after assessing Joseph’s age, his playing record, the time he has spent at Liverpool, the status of both clubs and the financial packages each side put on the table for him.
Champions still building for the future
Arsenal head into the new season as Premier League champions, but the recruitment drive at the Emirates is not limited to headline first-team signings. The club have poured resources into the academy, determined to keep a steady stream of talent flowing towards Arteta’s squad.
Joseph’s arrival, once the fee is settled, would be another example of Arsenal targeting elite youth from rival clubs rather than relying solely on internal production.
For Liverpool, the move comes during a summer of change under Andoni Iraola as they try to close the gap on Arsenal at the top of the table. The Reds have already brought in Spanish winger Victor Munoz and French centre-back Jeremy Jacquet, and are exploring a deal for Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola.
