Arsenal Pursue Ezri Konsa as Priority Defensive Target

Arsenal are ramping up their pursuit of Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa, with confidence quietly growing that a deal can be struck for the England international.

Konsa has emerged as Arsenal’s priority defensive target, the player they want to anchor the next phase of their back line. Talks with Villa have been ongoing, and there is a sense from several sources that an agreement to bring him to Emirates Stadium is within reach.

The problem is clear: the price. Villa value Konsa at around £60m, and so far the Premier League champions have not gone that high. BBC Sport reported last week that Arsenal had reopened negotiations, only to fall short again of the Midlands club’s demands.

For a moment, it looked as though Arsenal were ready to move on. The club appeared to turn their attention to Bayer Leverkusen’s Jarrell Quansah, exploring an alternative route to defensive reinforcements.

Now the focus has swung back. Arsenal are pushing harder for Konsa, testing Villa’s resolve and their own willingness to edge closer to that £60m figure. How far they go from here will say plenty about just how badly they want him at the heart of their title defence.
