Arsenal Initiate Talks with Galatasaray for Victor Osimhen Amid Player Exchange Rumors

Arsenal have begun negotiations with Galatasaray over the potential signing of Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen. This move might finally bring the forward to the Premier League after a much-discussed saga.

Turning Focus to Osimhen

The 27-year-old, who made a high-profile transfer to Galatasaray last summer for €75 million (£64.8m) following his time at Napoli, has attracted renewed interest from Arsenal. The club shifted their focus to Osimhen after failing to secure other targets. Initially, Julian Alvarez was the main summer target, but Atletico Madrid refused to part with their player.

Complex Negotiations Involving Multiple Players

Discussions between Arsenal and Galatasaray extend beyond Osimhen. The Turkish side has placed a €45m (£38.4m) bid for Brazilian winger Gabriel Martinelli, though the player reportedly hesitates about moving to Turkey. At the same time, talks are advancing concerning teenage talent Ethan Nwaneri. Arsenal proposed a €40m (£34.1m) fee for Nwaneri, and Galatasaray seems keen to finalize the deal.

Support from John Obi Mikel and Ambitions for Champions League

"I think we want to see him in the Champions League so maybe Arsenal might be the destination. Maybe there is a door open there for Victor," said Chelsea legend John Obi Mikel, backing Osimhen’s ambition to play at Europe’s highest level.

"He is working to make sure he ends up at a top European league where he can showcase his talent and compete to win the Champions League," Mikel added, referencing conversations with the striker.

A Shift in Arsenal’s Strategy

Arsenal’s new interest in Osimhen marks a notable change. They had the chance to sign him in 2024 but declined due to Napoli’s steep asking price. Now, manager Mikel Arteta appears determined to secure a reliable goalscorer to lead the team, with the Premier League’s appeal still strong for Osimhen.
