Anis Hadj Moussa Returns to Feyenoord for Barcelona Clash
The drama is over. At least, that’s how Giovanni van Bronckhorst wants it.
Feyenoord’s manager confirmed that Anis Hadj Moussa is back in the squad and on the plane to Spain, named in the travelling group for Wednesday night’s Champions League clash with Barcelona at Camp Nou.
A few days ago, that felt unlikely.
From late arrivals to a lifeline
Hadj Moussa sat out Saturday’s league win over NEC after turning up late on two separate occasions. Van Bronckhorst made it clear at the time: the winger’s head was not in the game.
The distraction was obvious. A multi-million euro move to Al-Ittihad had been on the table, only to fall apart when the Saudi club failed to lodge the required bank guarantee. The deal collapsed. The noise didn’t.
For a while, Feyenoord were left with an unsettled player and a dressing room watching the saga unfold.

The turning point came in Spain, not in a boardroom but on the grass.
During Tuesday’s training session, the 24-year-old Algerian addressed his team-mates himself. No statement, no PR filter. Just a player facing the group.
Van Bronckhorst described the moment as serious, though it still drew the odd laugh from the squad. Crucially, it worked as a release valve. A way to park the issue and move on.
The coach did not gloss over his winger’s behaviour. He called Hadj Moussa’s matchday choices unacceptable. But once the transfer window shut and the move to Al-Ittihad was officially dead, the player’s attitude changed. He “turned the page,” as Van Bronckhorst put it.

Hadj Moussa has resumed full training and is now in line to feature at Camp Nou on Wednesday evening, a rapid shift from being left out entirely at the weekend to potentially influencing one of the biggest nights of Feyenoord’s season.

The travelling party to Spain also carries a glimpse of the club’s future. Seventeen-year-old Jerayno Schaken has been included, handed a first taste of the Champions League environment. At the other end of the spectrum, Reiss Nelson misses out through injury, a blow to Feyenoord’s attacking options on a night when every outlet matters.
Domestically, Feyenoord arrive on the back of a victory over NEC, a result they want to use as a springboard into Europe. The challenge now is to turn that routine league win into a statement performance on the Champions League stage.
