Alisson fined £8,000 after Anfield incident

Alisson has been hit with an £8,000 fine for kicking the fourth official’s electronic board in the aftermath of Liverpool’s stormy 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest at Anfield.

The Liverpool goalkeeper lashed out at the equipment as he headed towards the tunnel at full-time on Saturday, frustration boiling over after a chaotic finish and a night of mounting grievances.

His anger had several layers.

During the game, the fourth official’s board malfunctioned while Liverpool were trying to make substitutions with the score at 1-1. The ball went out of play three times, yet the changes still couldn’t be made. The delay fed into the sense of disorder on the touchline as the match hung in the balance.

Flashpoint

Then came the flashpoint.

Alisson conceded a penalty when he raced off his line after a quick Nottingham Forest throw-in. Liam Delap found Neco Williams, who went down under the goalkeeper’s challenge and the referee pointed to the spot. Morgan Gibbs-White buried the penalty to put Forest 2-1 up, and Anfield erupted in fury.

Days later, that fury was given fresh fuel.

On Wednesday, the Key Match Incidents panel released its findings and ruled that the penalty should not have been awarded. By then, of course, the damage to Liverpool’s result was done — and so was the damage to Alisson’s disciplinary record.

The Football Association confirmed that the 33-year-old accepted a misconduct charge over his actions by the tunnel, after it was alleged he “acted in an improper manner around the tunnel area”. No ban was imposed, but the financial penalty underlined the FA’s stance on behaviour towards match officials and their equipment.

One malfunctioning board, one overturned call in hindsight, and one furious kick have now combined into a costly footnote to a game Liverpool will not forget quickly.
