Alisson Becker Fined £8,000 for Tunnel Outburst
Alisson Becker has been hit with an £8,000 fine by the Football Association after his anger boiled over in the tunnel following Liverpool’s controversial penalty concession.
The Liverpool goalkeeper lost his temper at full-time and took his frustrations out on the fourth official’s electronic numbers board as he headed back towards the dressing rooms. The FA charged him with misconduct for his behaviour in the tunnel area after the whistle.
“It was alleged that the goalkeeper acted in an improper manner around the tunnel area after the final whistle. Alisson Becker has subsequently accepted the charge against him and received the standard penalty.”
His fury stemmed from the late decision to award a penalty for a foul on Neco Williams. The challenge came after the defender had already got his shot away, with contact arriving only after the ball had gone. Alisson was visibly incensed on the pitch and that frustration clearly carried on down the tunnel.
The incident unfolded amid confusion on the touchline. The fourth official’s numbers board had malfunctioned, delaying a planned triple substitution from Andoni Iraola. That stoppage added to the sense of chaos around the decisive moment.
The fallout has not stopped there. The Key Match Incident (KMI) Panel has since ruled that referee Sam Barrott made the wrong call in awarding the spot-kick, officially confirming the decision as an error.
Alisson has accepted his punishment. The sense of injustice around how it all unfolded will linger far longer.
